Half Day Tour: Pegasus Bridge & Sword Beach
About This Tour
In just 4 hours, experience a focused D-Day tour covering two of the British sector's defining sites: Pegasus Bridge, the 6th Airborne's most famous action of the entire invasion, and the landing sites at Sword Beach, Britain's most costly landing and the only beach to face a German armoured counterattack on D-Day itself. Departing from Bayeux, this tour gives you the essential British sector story in a single afternoon.
Detailed Itinerary
Short on time but want to experience the two defining moments of the British D-Day story? This half day tour departs from Bayeux and covers both the daring airborne assault at Pegasus Bridge and the landings at Sword Beach, giving you the essential British sector story in a single afternoon.
Departure from Bayeux
The tour begins in Bayeux, with a short drive to Bénouville, site of one of the most famous operations of D-Day.
Pegasus Bridge
Visit the site of the daring glider assault carried out by the British airborne landings in the opening minutes of D-Day. Led by Major John Howard, D Company of the 2nd Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, captured this vital crossing and held it against German counterattacks, in what remains one of the most celebrated operations of the Second World War.
Sword Beach
From Pegasus Bridge, continue to Sword Beach, the easternmost of the D-Day beaches, where the British 3rd Infantry Division came ashore on the morning of D-Day. Hear how they fought through heavily layered German defences before returning to Bayeux.
