Terms & Conditions and Travel Information
Everything you need to know before you travel with us — written to be both frank and friendly, so that every client enjoys the service provided by D-Day Landing Tours.
These terms and conditions are intended to be both frank and friendly, and to make sure all our clients enjoy the service provided by D-Day Landing Tours. Below you will also find practical information to help you prepare your visit to Normandy.
Planning your visit
Tour timings
- Full day, starting in Bayeux09:00 – 17:30
- Full day, pick up in Caen or outside Bayeux09:00 – 17:30
- Half day, morning09:00 – 13:00
- Half day, afternoon13:30 – 17:30
If you wish to start later or finish earlier, all is possible — just tell us when you book.
Pick ups
Your pick up point is as agreed in all previous correspondence, normally your hotel. Our quoted price is for a tour starting and ending at the same place, unless otherwise stated and agreed.
Museums
On a private tour, any museum fees are payable by yourselves and are not included in our prices. Whether or not you visit any of the museums along the route you have selected is entirely up to you.
Be prepared
You will be visiting areas that may be on rough terrain: beaches, sand dunes, countryside and occasionally built-up areas. Normandy weather is unpredictable, so please dress appropriately for an outside walking tour.
- A waterproof jacket and comfortable walking shoes are needed for most of the year.
- Layer your clothes, in case you are too hot or too cold.
- Leave umbrellas behind — they are useless in windy weather on the beaches. A waterproof hat is more appropriate.

It is possible to tour the landing beaches in one day from Paris. For a full day of touring, take the first train from Paris Saint-Lazare to Bayeux, leaving just after 06:00, and return on a train after 17:30.

Insurance and cancellation by us
You and all members of your group should always ensure that you have suitable travel insurance to provide cover in the event that you have to cancel your booking.
If we have to cancel your booking, we will give you as much notice as possible and, where possible, offer an alternative date, an alternative tour company, or a refund of your deposit. We will not compensate in the event of cancellation due to circumstances beyond our control, such as war, threat of war, terrorist activity, natural disasters or extreme adverse weather conditions, or in the event that we have to cancel because the balance of the fee has not been paid.
If, after leaving us, your journey home is delayed or cancelled, it is your responsibility to find suitable accommodation and travel arrangements at your own cost.
On the day of your tour
Waiting times and duration
For a private tour using a driver-guide and our vehicle, we will wait at the agreed meeting place for 30 minutes after the stated departure time. If after that period you have not arrived, or have not told us by telephone that you are running late, we reserve the right to cancel the tour.
A private full-day tour usually lasts around eight to nine hours, or less if you prefer. There is no mileage limit on our tours, but we do expect to return to wherever the tour commenced by the agreed finishing time. Circumstances outside our control may occasionally mean we arrive back later. For half-day tours we can be flexible to accommodate train times, and we can end the tour in a different place from where you were met, if that is logistically possible.
Accidents
All our clients are fully insured whilst travelling in our vehicle in the event of a traffic accident. You are required to wear a seat belt at all times while in the vehicle, and at no time is the drinking of alcohol permitted on board. We highly recommend that you take out personal injury and accident insurance whilst travelling abroad.
Personal property
Our company insurance does not cover the theft of your items or belongings from our passenger vehicle. Several of the places we visit carry specific warnings against leaving valuables in vehicles. Although our vehicle has central locking, we advise you to leave your luggage at your hotel and to travel light with us.
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities
- You must have a valid passport to travel.
- If driving in France, you must bring the originals of your driving licence, insurance certificate and registration document, and carry them with you at all times. It is a legal requirement in France to carry these papers with your car.
- Carry a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or an equivalent worldwide cover insurance card at all times. This will be required if you need medical treatment, and failure to carry one will leave you liable for hefty medical expenses.
- You, and anyone travelling in your party, should arrange suitable travel insurance covering cancellation of the holiday and repatriation in the event of illness or accident.
- Everyone travelling in your group must be fully co-operative with your tour guide and, in case of emergency, do as he or she asks.
Our responsibilities
We shall honour the tour itinerary to the best of our ability. However, we cannot be held responsible for anything beyond our control, such as the closure of attractions and museums or the lack or unavailability of amenities. If the itinerary has to change, every effort will be made to find a suitable alternative to fulfil your tour. In the event of an accident, the appropriate course of action will be taken.
Beyond our control
D-Day Landing Tours accepts no liability for unscheduled museum closures, including closed sections, bad weather at sites, roadworks, traffic delays, or sites closed to the public for any reason beyond our control. We also reserve the right to cancel your tour at any time for reasons such as staff illness, vehicle breakdown or weather. In such an event you will be offered an alternative tour or date, if at all possible.
You can also find D-Day Landing Tours listed on KAYAK Guides, alongside reviews from travellers who have toured the landing beaches with us.
