Detailed Itinerary
A focused 4-hour tour giving you the essential story of the British Gold Beach landings, from the naval duel at Longues-sur-Mer to the remarkable Mulberry Harbour at Arromanches.
Longues-sur-Mer Battery
The tour begins at the Longues-sur-Mer German gun battery, which on D-Day morning engaged in a fierce naval duel with HMS Ajax and other Allied warships. The battery's original gun barrels remain in their casemates today, making it one of the most evocative Atlantic Wall sites on the Normandy coast.
Arromanches and the Mulberry B Harbour
A short drive brings you to Arromanches, where the remains of the prefabricated Mulberry B Harbour can still be seen offshore. One of the engineering miracles of the war, it was towed across the Channel in sections and assembled at sea to supply the Allied armies advancing into France.
Gold Beach
The tour takes in the landing sites of the 231st and 69th Brigades on Gold Beach, where the British 50th Infantry Division came ashore on D-Day. Your guide covers the assault, the obstacles, and the advance inland that secured the beachhead before the return to Bayeux.
